FAQ’s

At it’s core, Your Place Tō wāhi is based on the knowledge that people are time poor and only want to hear about, and connect with what is happening in their community. And that if we want to get more people sharing their thoughts with us, it’s our responsibility to facilitate a new kind of engagement that is local at it’s heart, is led by community characters, and filled with the kind of community spirit that leads to trusting, open kōrero.

We also know that the needs of our District and communities are diverse – sometimes different, sometimes the same. No matter what, one size does not always fit all.

So our 12 neighbourhoods will be a place to highlight the rich diversity and pride of place, to kōrero on the pressing issues and priorities affecting that area, and to keep everyone updated on projects already underway.

They will evolve online over time to reflect the community conversations, progress that has been made, and what is planned for the future.

We’ll still need to tackle some issues that affect us all, but by taking a closer look at what’s happening in your backyard we believe we can create a District that is a true reflection of everyone, now and in the future

We’ve created 12 neighbourhoods because we know the needs of our District and communities are diverse – sometimes different, sometimes the same. No matter what, one size does not always fit all.

We have broken the District down where most geographically logical so you can hear about, and connect with what is happening in your community – alongside the odd project that is District-wide.

Our neighbourhoods are:

  • Waihī Beach / Athenree / Bowentown
  • Katikati / Aongatete
  • Matakana Island
  • Te Puna / Minden
  • Ōmokoroa
  • Whakamarama
  • Omanawa / Lower Kaimai
  • Oropi / Ohauiti / Pyes Pa
  • Te Puke
  • Paengaroa
  • Pukehina / Pongakawa
  • Maketu

With all communications and engagement, we want to make it easier for people to connect with us – what’s in it for them and what’s happening in their backyard.

So, we’re flipping the script and allowing the community to set the narrative by working with established and respected community leaders to develop the key issues that are facing their community.

We have existing relationships with these groups already and know they do incredible mahi in their community and have significant networks of their own.

These groups have connected with other groups, and Community Board’s, in their community to develop what the community issues are for this phase and recommend how the community prefers to provide feedback – online polls, focus groups or community event.

These topics may evolve as we have these conversations, and also as we progress our work programme.

There will be overlap on issues or topics for neighbourhoods, but we want to tell the story of what’s specifically happening in each area.

The information you provide is important to us. We will analyse and allocate it to the appropriate project or review, i.e., Long Term Plan, Speed Limit Review or Waste Management or Minimisation Plan.

Some of your feedback might be relevant to multiple projects or reviews, in which it will be considered across all.

Should your feedback be more suited to another organisation – Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency or Bay of Plenty Regional Council – we will pass this one.

We will be communicating regularly with where we are at with feedback, what decisions have been made and the next steps. The best way to keep across this is to sign up to our e-newsletter located at the bottom of this website.
